In Career/Apprenticeship

A leader’s real power lies in his resilience. Resilience is a character that holds great leaders in decisive moments. Take some time to look at all the individuals who have prospered in their respective careers. You will learn that at some point in their careers, they all were struggling.

That did not stop them from rebounding with even more powerful will. They had even greater endurance to achieve their goal. Elon Musk is one such great example. He has shown an enormous amount of resilience to failures. His performance was miserable during the beginning stages of his stint at SpaceX. He did not find much support from the people who worked there either. And today this guy is worth over $20 billion.

That’s because he possesses one vital yet straightforward attribute – Resilience.

Now you might be thinking – Is resilience something natural? Or is it possible to impart this quality in our lives by practice? The answer to these questions is a combination of the two. Everyone has a certain level of resilience inside. Still, you need to practice making resilience your greatest strength.

How to inculcate resilience in your attitude

Stop living in the past

By living in your past, you are impairing your present as well as your future prosperity.  Decisions you have taken in your past were best suited at that time and were in line with that situation. Those decisions have made you what you are today. There is no need to keep mulling about them and waste your precious present.

The ideal way to get out of it is to take a break. Give yourself a holiday. Propel positive thoughts on your mind or do some creative work that will draw your attention away from all this.

Don’t let failures end your journey

Don’t let all your failures end your journey; they are temporary and think it as a measure to improve further. Who knows when such defeat might become a blessing in disguise? Remember, you can never achieve greatness in one day.

The great inventor Thomas Alva Edison did not let his failures put an end to his journey to discover. If he had done so, he might never have invented the light bulb. One of his famous quotes was

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

Try to be positive about the things that did not work out according to your plan. When you practice positive thinking, you give yourself an excellent opportunity to improve. Read success stories of other people. Learn how they achieved great results after initial failure.

Don’t waste the time you have in your hand

The main difference between a successful person and a not so successful one is the value they place on time. Successful people know that time management is critical to achieving greater success. This attitude separates them from the not so successful ones. The latter wastes more time regretting than doing anything.

Sir Richard Branson is a successful businessperson: one of the most prominent of our time. He has some excellent time management tricks up his sleeve. Sir Richard once mentioned conducting his meetings standing up, and it is one of his favorite skills to manage time. This way, he is able to get down to the business much faster. The gifted business magnate finds this method easy to make decisions and seal deals. He also said that he would conduct a walking meeting if the opportunity arises.

So, the moral of the story is do not waste the time you have on your hands and use it in the best possible way.

Stay healthy

A stressful mind is the biggest weakness of a leader. Stress often paralyzes the mind of a person and makes him vulnerable in his decision making. It’s a terrible situation to face, especially if you have to do it on your own.

We can also say the same about the physical welfare of a person. When your physical health is not in good condition, you can never focus on achieving your life goals. That’s why taking good care of your physical and mental health is one of the most crucial factors. It’s the best way to make yourself even more resilient.

Do some physical activity to improve your physical and mental health. You can start with a 30-minute jog and increase it to an intense yoga routine. And finally, improve your diet. Eat the healthy and nutritious food that your body needs the most.
